Lumorig vs Masko

Both turn an idea or an image into a mascot for your product. The difference is what comes back: Masko generates images and video; Lumorig gives you a rigged vector character you can animate, embed and control from code.

Quick answer

Pick by where the mascot will live.

Choose Lumorig if…

  • the mascot lives in your web app, site or mobile app;
  • you want it lightweight (KB, not MB), recolourable and scalable;
  • you need it to react to events: chat states, agent status, onboarding;
  • you want lots of motion without paying per second;
  • your agent should create and embed it over MCP.

Choose Masko if…

  • you want a floating desktop companion on your Mac;
  • you prefer generated video motion and painterly, clay or papercraft looks;
  • you'd rather license a ready-made character from a marketplace;
  • you need Apple HEVC video with alpha as your delivery format.

The real difference

A video of a character vs the character itself.

Generated video is flexible: a model can invent any motion, angle or texture. The trade-off is that every clip is a new render. Each one costs credits by the second, arrives as a video file in several codecs, and can't be recoloured, resized without loss, or steered from your code once it's made.

A rig is the opposite trade. Lumorig draws the character once as vector parts with joints, then every motion poses that same drawing: 15 presets for free, custom motions on demand, all exportable as vector Lottie or driven live by state machines in your app. It can't do photoreal or painterly motion, and it doesn't try to.

FAQ

Lumorig vs Masko questions.

Is Lumorig a good Masko alternative?

If you need the mascot inside your own product, yes: Lumorig gives you a vector character you can embed, recolour and control from code on web, iOS and Android. If you want a floating desktop companion on your Mac, Masko is built for that and Lumorig is not.

Which is cheaper?

It depends on how much motion you need. On Lumorig, all 15 presets are free and a custom motion is a flat 20 credits; Masko charges every animation per second. Lumorig's paid plans start at $12/mo and include a free plan with 200 credits a month; Masko Pro is $20/mo.

Can I bring a character I made elsewhere?

Yes, if you have the rights to it. Upload the image and Lumorig rebuilds it as a rigged vector (120 credits), with a fidelity score so you can see how close it is.

What can Masko do that Lumorig can't?

Generated video can show motion a rig can't: new angles, squash and stretch beyond the drawing, painterly or clay textures. Masko also has a macOS desktop runtime and a marketplace of ready-made, licensable characters.
